Obituary

David Lawrence Hopper, 74, of The Villages, FL died on January 21, of complications of Covid.
Born in Corning, NY on May 12, 1947, he was the son of Thomas and Wilma Burlingame
Hopper. Raised in Addison, NY, he completed his education at Rensselaer Technical Institute,
earning Bachelors and Masters Degrees of Science. He married Elizabeth Drew Rose on April
25, 1986. He had a distinguished career in Information Technology, first employed by General
Electric in Connecticut and then founding his own software development companies. He never
retired, and was still doing software development until he became ill.
He loved sailing and the water, living on the Intracoastal Waterway in Sea Gate, NC for 29
years before moving to Florida. His cabin on Goodhue Lake, NY was and is the epicenter of
his family. He invited the family there every summer and worked relentlessly to make sure
each family member was able to enjoy every second there as much as he did. Built by hand
by David and his Dad Tom, it has now been handed down three generations and will continue
to grow.
His smile was infectious. His hugs felt like they could heal. The twinkle in his eye was the
world to those who saw it. Just being in his presence was comforting. He was certainly
one of a kind. He will be missed by many and will always be loved unconditionally.
Preceded in death by his parents, he is survived by his wife Elizabeth Hopper, stepmother
Marilyn Hopper, sister Karen Buckley (Lewis), children Christopher Hopper (Christin Butler),
Nicole Fricke (Daniel), Wiliam Rose III (Shona Kerr), niece Debra (Buckley) Tulisano (Robert),
grandchildren Autumn Hopper, Madison Padgett, Reese Murphy, Nathaniel Fricke, Julianna
Fricke, Izzabella Fricke, Drew Rose, and great grandchild Bailey Larsen.
A memorial will be held this coming summer in Addison, NY.

Dave was well loved among his many fraternity brothers of the Rho chapter of his Phi Kappa Tau fraternity at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. May peace and good memories bless his family
