David K. Hurlbert (74) from Lincoln, NE passed away on June 18, 2024. Dave was born on November 29, 1949 in Ord, NE to Dudley K. and Helen (Ceplacha) Hurlbert.

Dave graduated from Lincoln Northeast High School in 1968. Dave met Judy Smith in 1971 and on September 2, 1972 they were married in the United Methodist Church, Rising City, NE. Eight years later they began their family, having daughters Reanna and Christine.

Dave worked at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber factory in Lincoln, NE for 30 years. He was passionate about bicycles and began repairing and selling them from home. During his later years with Goodyear, Dave opened his own business, ‘The Used Bike Shop,’ selling used and new bicycles from a nearby storefront.

Dave and his family attended Indian Hills Community Church, Lincoln, NE for many years, Dave was baptized in the Spring of 1991, and his favorite verse of scripture was John 3:16. He used every available opportunity to share the Gospel with others, right up until a few days before his passing.

As a family they vacationed in Florida numerous times over approximately 20 years and in 2008 Dave & Judy retired to Tavares, FL.
Dave is preceded in death by his parents, Dudley and Helen Hurlbert, aunt and uncle, Eva & Emil Ceplacha, aunt and uncle, June & Frank Ceplacha, and uncle, Bill Ceplacha. He is survived by his wife, Judy (Smith) Hurlbert, daughters, Reanna (Damon) Thomas, grandsons, Landon and Finn Thomas, all of Daykin, NE, daughter Christine (Jesse) Johnson, grandsons, Nolan, Aaron, and Gunnar Johnson, all of Lincoln, NE, sister, Betsy (Mike) Scherbak, Lincoln, NE, aunt Patty Ceplacha, Bellevue, NE, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Services are Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at 11:00am at First Baptist Church of Umatilla, 550 Hatfield Dr., Umatilla, FL 32784.
