David Stevenson Pace, 73, of Homosassa, FL passed away on January 27, 2023, in his home with his loving partner, Becky Windle. He “fought the good fight” against gastric cancer all of 2022. His positive attitude was admired by everyone that knew him.

David was born on March 15, 1949, in York Harbor, Maine to Frances and Albert Pace. He lived in Portsmouth, NH area until he moved to Florida in 2009.

Those that are left with wonderful memories are his daughter Erin, son-in law Tom, and his grandchildren Rylee and Logan Bass.  He also is survived by his close brother and sister-in-law Albert and Kathy Pace, nephews and many grand nieces and nephews. David was a good friend to many in Sugarmill Woods, The Villages and the Portsmouth area. He would say “to have a friend, be a friend”. David was predeceased by his mother, father, and brother Gary Pace.

David graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1968 and later served in the US Coast Guard.  David graduated from the NH Police Academy and joined the Portsmouth Police Department where he had an extraordinary 21-year career. Highlights included participating in the development of the SWAT and later serving as the Executive Officer.  He spent 10 years as Detective Sergeant, Bureau of Investigative Services. During that time he was a member of Kiwanis where he enjoyed serving his community. Before he moved to Florida, he had a stump grinding business called “The Hungry Beaver”.

David was an avid golfer, having been a member of The Portsmouth Country Club for many years and later was able to golf year-round after moving to FL. He also enjoyed fishing with his brother and many close friends.

I knew Dave when he was an officer on the Portsmouth police dept. but really got to know him when he moved to the Villages in Fl. Dave was one of the kindest and compassionate guys I have know . He loved to play golf, fish and play cards. He would invite a bunch of us over to his house to play poker. We always had a great time with one exception, Dave was a good poker player and he always ended up with all my money and everyone else’s. Dave will definitely be missed by all his friends and family. Rest In Peace my friend! My sympathy to Dave’s family and Becky!

Uncle Dave, things just won’t be the same without you. We’ll miss your sense of humor and quiet strength. I’ll always remember you with a rod or club or stogie, making Dad laugh or smile. Thanks for everything.

Knowing you for only a brief time, you enriched our lives. Romans 14:8-9
If we live, we live for the Lord; If we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that He might be the Lord of both the dead and the living.
