Obituary

HOCKING, DEAN- Dean A. Hocking, 79, of New Smyrna Beach, FL died on Saturday, September 3, 2011, at his home surrounded by family.   Dean was born in Rockaway, New Jersey to the late Lenord and Mildred (Mitchell) Hocking. He was predeceased by his wife of 43 years, Janet (Raymond). He is survived by his second wife, Darlene (Engle), of New Smyrna Beach, and her two sons and daughter; a sister, Barbara (Floyd) Sigler of Franklin, NC; three daughters: Denise Hocking of Rochester, NY, Diane Dobbs of Malta, NY, and Michelle Hocking of Amsterdam, NY; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.   Dean served in the Army during the Korean War. Mr. Hocking, a banker, moved to Florida from Amsterdam, NY. He traveled extensively and enjoyed golf, cooking, and sailing. He served as a volunteer for a number of community service groups and child advocacy foundations, including Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Amsterdam and Guardian ad Litum of Florida.   Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to: Florida Guardian ad Litem Foundation, PO Box 10688, Tallahassee, FL 32302.

    Dean was a sure joy to us - he sort of kept his wing our son Chris with Michelle - we saw him last in New Smyrna - we live close by and chatted about years in Amsterdam - his wife Jan - was also a pleasure and with my wife Janet did serve as Brownies GS for our kids - A greaty family - peace be with you

    Michele and family..I was saddened to read of the passing of your father today. Dean was a dedicated member of the Liberty ARC board for many years and a good friend. I remeber your father as taking community service very seriously . You have every reason to take pride in his life.

    I was sorry that I last touch with your father after he moved to Florida. We enjoyed many sailing adventures as well. Dean enjoyed life.
