Obituary

“I suspect that every saved soul in heaven is a great wonder, and that heaven is a vast museum of wonders of grace and mercy. A palace of miracles, in which everything will surprise everyone who gets there.”

Charles Spurgeon, ‘Feeble Faith Appealing To A Strong Savior’

Dennis Fleming passed peacefully on October 17, 2020, at his home in Port Orange, FL surrounded by loved ones. Born in Charleroi, PA to Margaret Guthrie Fleming and David Howard Fleming.  Both of which have preceded him in death.

A graduate of California University of Pennsylvania, Bachelor of Science, Education, Washington College, Master of Arts, Education, and Xavier University, MHA, Health Administration Business. Member of American College of Healthcare Executives. An educator at heart and a successful businessman, Dennis was a great storyteller, a hard worker, and had a great memory. His mother-in-law would call him ‘the encyclopedia man’. Meeting his soul mate and the love of his life in 1979, where they dated for 8 months, and they were married for 40 years.

During a neurological check by the doctors they pointed to Dennis’s wife and asked, ‘who is that?’ expecting him to say, ‘Heidi,’ Dennis said, “Oh, that is my angel’. Full of life, and love, and peace, and hope, Dennis earned the respect of those who knew him. He had a passion and gift for sharing the good news of Jesus Christ through his life and through his love.

An avid lifetime athlete Dennis earned multiple championships in equestrian events and tennis. An endurance athlete, snow skier, and a reader. He had a life-long love of learning, gardening, and cooking.

Dennis will be greatly missed but, he would want everyone to know he was prepared and eager to meet his Savior. He has completed his race.

He is survived by his wife Heidi and preceded in death by his sister Melinda Fleming and his stepbrothers David, Bill, and Gerald Fleming.

    To a Brave Hero❤️
Dennis Fleming your resilience, strength, and courage are a bright light in any darkness. As I watch your journey, I am inspired to fight and empowered to love.

I met you just a year ago. As we sat by the pool in Costa Rica your smile and faith pierced my heart. When Samantha Sagot spoke of you and Heidi Fleming her love and gratitude for your impact in her life was so apparent. Dennis, you’ve made it your life mission to make a positive impact on every person that crosses your path; and to this very day you have not stopped.

May we all learn from your love and your faith. With Hospice at your home you are peaceful, you smile, and you fist bump (so cool) God has you and you know it.
From a life you made a difference in - all my love

While we are terribly saddened for all of us still on this crazy earth, we are filled with joy that Dennis knew Jesus as his Lord and Savior and is now safely in His arms of love and comfort. Our very fondest memories of Dennis were his telling of the many stories of how God had so miraculously worked in his life. His face was one of pure delight as he shared.

We love you, Heidi, and we grieve with you during this difficult time. Thank you for sharing your sweet husband with us over the years.

I have read these tributes and shed tears missing him but joyful that so many knew his testimony of loving Jesus Christ. Our days are numbered on earth but Eternity is forever. His smile will continue to light up heaven as we continue to struggle here on Earth without him. But, but,.... there will be that day when the Lord calls us to unite with our loved ones and Jesus himself. We will not grow weary doing His work while we wait. Love you Heidi. Tears for your loss and Joy that you know Jesus.

Hello Heidi, I deeply apologize that I cannot be there with you at this memorial to honor your husband and my dear friend Dennis.

How can I begin to share the wonderful years I have known Dennis and the many sweet hours that we shared?

I can only say that whatever descriptions the Word of God uses regarding a righteous man they are describing Dennis.

    I remember the time after cancer surgery when I was too weak to drive to Jacksonville for my checkup;

Who but Dennis pulls up to transport me. He carefully and lovingly helped me into his car, drove me to and from Jacksonville while sharing uplifting, supportive, and heavenly gift wrapped words that continued to fill the car with the presence of heaven.

Dennis reflected God’s heart without a doubt! I never heard one word from him that did not edify, encourage, and propel the listener towards our Master’s feet in prayer and humility.

Dennis taught me how to reach beyond my own situation and pain, indeed Dennis reflected Jesus in the flesh to all who encountered him and knew him.

Now I am before those who loved him and I desire you sharing these special moments with each of you after our special friend, our brother in the Lord and a wonderful husband has crossed over the Jordon before us in the company of angels and of course Jesus himself was with him.

Our Lord personally came to welcome Dennis and to say …“Well done my good and faithful servant”.

Well, Dennis, I look forward to walking with you and Jesus on the beautiful shores of heaven while we share and talk about its indescribable glories.

BUT UNTIL THEN there is just one more thing I really need to tell you Dennis and that is … “I LOVE YOU DENNIS AND I WILL DEEPLY MISS YOU”, but then you already know that don’t you!

    Larry

PS: I really do miss you, Dennis!

Selfie at Leadership with Dennis and Heidi. Nemo and I were newly married and the advice we received this day was, “if it’s not going to matter in a few years from now, don’t stress about it now. Learn which battles to just drop.” Our marriage thanks you and Dennis for that advice. We love you guys dearly.

Their are friends that are closer than a brother. That was Dennis to me. A friend, teacher, roll model, scholar, wellspring of knowledge and experience. Combined with the wisdom to make the world and people around him better.
