Obituary

It is with great sorrow we announce that Dennis Franklin Hrzenak, 74, of Fort Myers, passed away on Wednesday, November 14, 2018, at Hope Hospice HealthPark, surrounded by family and friends. He was born on December 28, 1943, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Frank John Herzenak and Mildred Maxine (Masters) Herzenak. He attended Wyandotte High School, moved to South Florida in 1971, and eventually settled in the Fort Myers area in 1974. He was immensely proud of his contributions to Southwest Florida through his successful career as a commercial real estate mortgage broker involved in the development of some of the most prominent business and shopping centers in the area.

Dennis will be forever remembered for his uncanny ability to make friends everywhere he went, his passion for the latest and greatest technology gadgets, and his zest for adventure (deep sea fishing in the Bahamas, motorcycle riding, and exploring the Navajo Nation in New Mexico). And we will never forget his generosity to others, active participation in local charity events, and of course, his enduring support for certain local establishments where he often gathered with his closest friends (and bartenders/servers) – Louie’s at old the Ramada Inn (going way back), Hooter’s, Mona Lisa’s, The Outback, Hurricane’s, and of course, Famous Dave’s BBQ.  He was also a proud member of Moose Lodge #1899, and served as Governor in 2005.

Survivors include his son, Kevin Hrzenak and his daughters, Denise Lunsford, Danielle (Richard) Ryea, and Deborah Mutchler from his first marriage to Karen Ann Wehrer; twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by his mother, Mildred Herzenak and brother, Jim Herzenak, of Overland Park, Kansas; and sister, Lisa (Brian) Murphy of Olathe, Kansas.

He will be forever missed and never forgotten. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either of the following:

A Celebration of Dennis’ Life will be held at Famous Dave’s BBQ, 12148 South Cleveland Avenue on Monday, November 19, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.   A special thanks to the Staff at Famous Dave’s BBQ.  Please post/share your favorite memory with us below.
