Obituary

Dettmer was born in McClusky, North Dakota. He Served in the United States Army during World War II at Guadalcanal. He then worked as a research technician at Texaco Research Labs in Glenham, NY later retiring to this area in 1982 from Beacon, NY.   Some of his activities included serving on the Beacon School Board, as an Elder at First Presbyterian Church in Beacon and as a Boy Scout Troop leader. But his favorite in life was the enjoyment of spending time with his family.   He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 64 years Joyce, son Bill (Linda) Bauer of Hobe Sound, FL, daughters Deborah Ahlgren of New Smyrna Beach, Kristin Bauer of Alexandria, VA, brother Lloyd (Marsha) Bauer of McClusky, ND, sister Geraldine (Vernon) Schneider of Goodrich, ND, six grandchildren Erik, Nina and Ethan Ahlgren, Veronica (Tyler) Whittington, Amber Allen, Kari Inman and six great grandchildren. In lieu of other remembrances the family requests donations to American Heart Assn 555 W Granada Ormond Beach FL 32174. 1:00 PM Wednesday, July 29 at Baldwin Brothers Memorial Chapel 1 North Causeway New Smyrna Beach, FL 32169 (map/driving directions) Cremation arrangements under the direction of Baldwin Brothers Cremation Service.

    Sorry to hear about the passing of Uncle Det. I will always remember our get togethers at your house in Beacon, when I was little. He always was a great cook when we would drop in with no notice on a Sunday. Sometimes mere words just arent enough to take away the grief, so we rely on God for help and strength. May He lift you up at this time and keep you under his wing.
