Dear Diana:
I am broken hearted this morning. After my response to your last email to me, which you wrote on September 10, and after receiving no further response from you, I became even more worried for you than I had been. This morning, I input your name into the computer and found your obituary.
We first met in 1996, when you were hired by the company I worked for at the time. If I remember correctly, we first met at the library in Miami as we were each doing research for our respective projects. Over time we developed a friendship that I have, and will always, value. I still remember how grand I felt the first time you invited me to your home, meeting Rebecca, and going with the both of you to visit that lighthouse. Buying you that little lighthouse replica. I also fondly remember other visits at other times, and how I felt downhearted when something always came up to prevent you from visiting me. Now I guess you never will.
Unfortunately, due to the vagaries of time, tide, and distance, we eventually grew apart, which saddened me. I am so glad that, after several years apart, we were finally able to reconnect about a year ago. Especially now.
I hope you know that you have been always special to me; not necessarily in “that way”, perhaps, but more as the younger sister I never had.
Rest in peace, Diana. As you signed off in your last email to me “love to you always”.
Gary Fowler
