Obituary

On Tuesday, January 26, 2021, Diane Bucklar, loving wife and mother of three children, passed away at the age of 74.

Diane was born on September 29, 1946 in Oak Park, Illinois to Eugene and Eleanor Priebe. She received her Elementary Education degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana – Champaign in 1968. On July 6, 1968, she married John Raymond Bucklar. They raised one daughter, Christine, and two sons, John and Jeffrey.

Diane’s true passion in life was her family, friends and students. She lit up every room with her radiant smile. No matter the length of time you knew her, you felt as though she was a long time friend. Her warmth and compassion touched so many hearts. As a mother, she was always supportive, loving, honest and loyal. She loved her “Grands” with all her soul and they are so blessed to have had the most caring and doting Mimi. She never missed a birthday, anniversary or special moment. She took so much pride in all of her family’s accomplishments and never missed the chance to tell them about it. She was LOVE!

Diane is preceded in death by her mother, Eleanor, her father, Eugene and her sister Barbara Retzler. She is survived by her husband, John, her three children Christie (Mark) Nelson, John (Marie) Bucklar and Jeff (Andrea) Bucklar and her six grandchildren Ashley, Brooke and Carly Nelson, Jack and Zoe Bucklar and Connor Bucklar as well as her sister Patricia Dalton.

Diane was a happy, caring person who enjoyed people. I worked with Diane at May Watts and can only characterize her as a bright light. Her dedication to her students as well as her ability to make you smile are a couple of things that stand out to me. She will be missed by family and friends, but her light will shine in our hearts forever. Rest in peace Diane.

Auntie Diane...you will be missed!! Some of my favorite memories were Christmas Day at the Bucklar's! From the moment you step into Diane's kitchen...you are laughing, reminiscing and probably tossed into some sort of game that often became very competitive. You had such a gift Auntie Diane and you always lit up the room. I am forever grateful for those memories and I will hold those close to my heart. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with all of you all during this time.

Our friendship dates back to early grade school and includes countless memorable times together. Summer weeks at the Priebe vacation home in Benton Harbor are forever etched in my memory not only for the “adventures” but also for the Priebe family time we all enjoyed. Diane emulated her parents in that same inclusive caring and ever present, genuine smile. Always staying close, how perfect that you all moved to Naperville and we had that close proximity again. My heart aches for Jack, Christi, Jeff, John and their families. Diane was special and we are all so fortunate to have had her in our lives. My love and prayers to Diane’s wonderful family.

Our hearts ache for the passing of Diane. I will always remember Christmas day at the Bucklars being so special. For me it pretty much defines my childhood recollection of what Christmas day was growing up. These are memories that nobody can take away from any of us. :)
Dancing on a wedding reception dance floor will also never be the same without Diane to boogie down with!! I am so thankful to Jack and Diane and the whole family for all the unforgettable memories. Please

And then there were all the fun times we had with you as a couple. You guys were the best hosts! I have a picture of our group that Diane hosted on my birthday that Mary gave me as a parting gift. It is on my nightstand titled This is Us. It means even more now! Sorry I won’t be able to be there Saturday❤️

Mrs. Bucklar was such a kind, caring person who brightened a room with her smile, had a great sense of humor and was always fun to be around. I have so many great memories spent with the Bucklar fam. One of my favorites is that we always had the party bus for a Jimmy Buffett show leave from Mr. and Mrs. B’s house. No better way to start a fun night than hanging out with those two! Mrs. B will be missed by many.
