Diane Gilletti Obituary
Diane Jean Kelly Gilletti, 60, passed away in Port Charlotte on Friday July 1st, 2022.
A loving wife, sister, and friend known for her grace in adversity and persistent smile, Diane was born on September 23rd, 1961, to Robert Kelly and Judith Sheeran Kelly Carlson in Detroit Michigan. She attended Flagler College in St. Augustine, where she received her Masters in Education.
After being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at an early age, Diane addressed her health situation head-on for her many years. She often worked with charity organizations that helped further diabetes research. In 1997, she received a life-saving kidney transplant, then traveled to New York City to speak of her experiences and share her knowledge at a diabetes summit.
Diane met and married the love of her life, Nick Gilletti, and they spent 29 years traveling the world together, enjoying trips to such far-away places as Italy, Cuba, Machu Picchu, and more. She also spent over 25 years educating our youth in the public school system, often working with exceptional students who needed the extra guidance and patience that she could provide. She built an amazing network of family and friends along the way.
In her later years, Diane found faith and friendship at Suncoast Community Church. She also was an accomplished poet, publishing books that inspired joy in all those who read them. She was passionate about dragonflies, and her books and poems always included them in her main themes.
Diane was preceded in death by both parents. Her memory is kept alive by her loving husband Nick, and by the Kelly family – her brother David (Kristina), her niece Delaney (David), and her nephew Zachary. The Gilletti family’s love for Diane continues from her step-daughter Tracy (Todd) and grandchildren Cayden and Cassidy, as well as from in-law siblings Louis (Tiffany), Denise (David), and Christine (Raul). Other loving family members include step-mother Janet Kelly, half-sisters Gwen Samuel (Jeff), Dawn Contardi (Rich), and Beth Samuel, and step-sisters Marcy Carlson Beatty (Joe) and Wendy Kelly (Tim).
Diane’s Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday August 20th at 11am at the 24TwentyOne Event Center in Port Charlotte Florida.
