Obituary

Diogenes Alvarez, 84, of Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2021 in Fort Myers, Florida.

The son of Jose Alvarez and Juana Velez, the call of New York City brought him to The Big Apple early on. Diogenes quickly became acclimated to the fast city life by becoming a busser at a Greek restaurant. He then met a guitar instructor who cultivated his love for music. At $3 a week per lesson, Diogenes became a musician, and was able to bring his music to churches throughout New York City. He also became a reverend and touched many lives with his deep knowledge of theology and was often a hand up for many in need. Diogenes was also a New York City cab driver and was well known for his long work hours and strong work ethic.

Diogenes Alvarez was the husband to Mildred Alvarez, and the loving parent to Rebecca Alvarez- Collado, Cynthia Alvarez and Damaris Davis. The loving grandparent to Rebecca Ann Martinez, Matthew Kevin Ginel, Gina Marie Martinez, Desiree Canales, Megan Krystal Ginel and Chelsea Canales. Great-grandfather to Isabelle Mya Sanchez, William Anel Sanchez, Lailani McKenzie Martinez, Giovanni Danilo Vasquez, Joel Lorenzo Vasquez, Angelina Nicole Marie Vasquez.

He will be greatly missed.
