Dee as Dolores was called, was born in Fulton County Pennsylvania to the late Laura (Faith) Shives and Irvin Shives but moved to California as a teenager where she met her future husband. Being a marine’s wife, she raised five children as they followed Mr. Humm around the country for twenty-four years. They lived in California, Hawaii, Tennessee, Virginia, South and North Carolina, and moved to Florida thirty-two years ago.
Dee’s passions were her children, grandchildren and great Grandchildren. She taught after school religion classes to children, loved to exercise, garden, and worked hard collecting funds for various charities and contributed to charities every month, even in the lean years when first married. While most of her married life she stayed at home with her children, her one foray in the business world resulted in a rapid promotion to management and sales increases surpassing those of all like stores in California.
Dee cared for her Mother until the end, and for a while she took care of her aging step father and her husband’s aunt.
