Obituary
Dominick Joseph DiBello
January 19, 1944 – November 3, 2022
Dominick Joseph DiBello of The Villages, FL was taken home to his eternal rest surrounded by the love of family on November 3, 2022.
Dominick is survived by his loving wife Linda; devoted daughter Dale (DiBello) Nicholson of Oviedo, FL, her husband Barry Nicholson and grandsons John Barrett and Brian Dominic; brother Michael DiBello and sisters Annette Rotbart and Stella DiBello and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dominick was born on January 19, 1944, in Brooklyn, New York to John DiBello and Angela (Petruzzelli) DiBello. Part of a close knit Italian family Dominick was surrounded by grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins throughout his young life. The bond between Dominick, his older brother Michael and younger twin sisters Annette and Stella and mother Angela, was exceedingly close and strong, especially following the loss of father John DiBello to cancer in 1958. Devotion to family was the defining value of Dominick’s life to the very end.
Dominick attended William E. Grady High School in Brighton Beach and was then accepted to New York School of Printing in Manhattan. He graduated from the New York School of Printing in 1961 and went on to work for Emil E Popp & Sons and The New York Athletic Club print shop.
In 1965, Dominick married the love of his life, Linda Quelle Friedman, with whom he would share a 57-year long love affair. Dominick and Linda welcomed their only child, daughter Dale in February 1972.
Looking for a fresh start in 1973, Dominick moved his young family to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and worked with his Uncle Ralph Petruzzelli to help him run Big Irv’s Farmer’s Market in Hallendale. Eventually Dominick and his brother Michael opened their own second location for Big Irv’s in Sunrise, Florida. After closing the store, Dominick worked at various Italian specialty stores, earning a local following for his service, quick smile and sharp sense of humor.
Later in life Dominick found a true calling as a financial advisor for A.L. Williams, now known as Primerica. His great joy was that he was able to help friends and especially family create investment and savings accounts for their retirement.
In 1996, Dominick celebrated Dale’s graduation from University of Florida, the first member of his immediate family to graduate from college, followed by her marriage to Barry Nicholson in 2001. Grandson John Barrett was born in December 2005, followed by grandson Brian Dominic in February 2008.
Dominick and Linda moved to The Villages in November 2015. He was an avid tennis enthusiast and loved watching matches. Above all Dominick loved spending time with his family. Always quick to offer a helping hand and sage advice in times of need, he will forever be remembered for his exceptional devotion as a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend.
A celebration of Dominick’s life is scheduled for 12:00pm Sunday, November 13th at SeaBreeze Recreation Center (Clearwater & Destin Rooms), 2384 Buena Vista Blvd, The Villages. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or any organization serving the homeless.
