"Ace" Altman remains a legend for those of us who followed his athletic career--my classmates (i was in 5th grade his senior year at Freeport) admired him from afar. His Cotton Bowl victory was televised --TV Guide that week published the roster and i recall the winning TD pass he completed to Tee Moorman. His MLB career as pitcher for . . .the Texas "Colt 45s"(?) was well known. On an occasion or 2 he came to our high school basketball practice on a Saturday morning . . .he was powerful and very much an exceptionl bb player and did not take it easy on us--a great example of a competitor!
