I am so grateful we were able to reconnect through Facebook. I have so many memories of when we were young. We would go to Aunt Janet’s and Uncle Donald’s during the Christmas Season and exchange gifts. I had so much fun with you and my three other cousins. You were “Little Donald” to us. To be able to chat on Messenger and send each other pictures of the family and reconnect years later has been a blessing to me. You will be missed by many. I am so saddened by your passing. Rest In Peace.

Big brother, you kept me safe and warm when the cold winds blew. That memory will remain eternally in my heart. I love you and I'll get to hug you again someday. In the meantime, rest easy in heaven.

What can you say about a man whose personality and heart were as big as he physically was? I first met Don in 1966, at Bernstein Junior High School, after that we attended Tottenville High School, class of ‘72. I would never try to say that I knew him better than others. I didn’t, but I always knew that friendly big guy with the smile. We met again when our sons were in the same Boy Scout Troop. Don was the same great guy that I remembered from school. A greeting from Don always made you feel like you were his best friend, it usually came with a bear hug too. Before parting ways you always got, “I love ya buddy”! Donnie my friend, you were one of a kind. As one of your friends said on a FB post, “You probably have God laughing his ass off already”! That made me laugh out loud and if anybody could pull off, it would be you. I am pissed and saddened that you (and so many others) were taken from their families and friends because of trying to help others on 9/11 and after. You were bigger than life and will always be remembered by all off us who loved you. My heart breaks for Carol, Kerri and Donnie. My sincere condolences and love go out to them. I know I will see you down the road my friend. Until then keep your hands on the home keys! Love ya buddy! Jack Chapman

Don was simply the kindest human I ever met. He was the true definition of a gentleman. Don was my son Daniel’s bus driver many years ago and from the first day we were all instant friends. I loved our morning chats, and I somehow forgave him for being a Steelers fan, lol! When we went to visit Carol and Don in Florida we were treated like family. The sweetest kindest most genuine couple. Don and I also shared a love of bulldogs, and all dogs. I know his beloved Choppa was waiting for him. I am in tears writing this. Thank you Don for your service! Thank you for your kindness and goodness. Thank you for being a friend, role model and father figure to Daniel. Thank you for making the world better just simply by being in it. My deepest heartfelt condolences to Carol, Kerri and Donnie. Rest peacefully my friend! I miss and love you always .

    Don,

A great partner and friend. Words can't express how much you will be missed by family and friends. Now you can touch the angels.

To quote from your favorite song "and I think to myself, what a wonderful world"

As you ended every conversation with me, "I love ya buddy".

With heartfelt sympathies to the family. It's funny to think as his cousin we always knew him as little Donald with a big heart. Kind and happy whenever we saw him...a truly good soul we are all the better for knowing.
