Obituary

Donald Theodore Karkosky (1944–2023)

Donald Theodore Karkosky, 79, of Orlando, FL, died of pancreatic cancer at Orlando Regional Medical Center on November 13, 2023. He was born in Brooksville, PA in 1944 to Lewis and Mary Karkosky. Don attended Spencer High School in Geneva, OH before joining the Air Force in 1964, where he served as a radio technician.

Don met the love of his life, Betty, in 1953 at the Church of Christ in Erie, PA when he was 9 and Betty was 11. He lived in Ohio at the time, but his family often visited PA and he and Betty’s families spent time together. Betty’s family moved to Florida in 1957. When Don left the Air Force in 1969 he ended up in Florida. He and Betty were reunited in 1980 when they both ended up working at Electrical Motor Services. Betty finally convinced him to go on a date in 1987, and the two were married on April 5, 1991.

Though Don loved telling stories and hunting, his favorite role was that of grandparent. He treasured his time with his two grandsons, TJ and Justin, sharing his love of fishing and sports.

Don had a soft spot for dachshunds. He and Betty had two, Sam and then Jake. Each of them were treated like the valuable family members they were.
Don was a member of the Pine Castle Church of Christ for many years, before placing membership with the South Bumby Church of Christ.

Everyone who knew Don knew how much he loved music, especially gospel music. He liked to play the guitar but was too shy to play it in front of anyone but his beloved Betty.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Mary Karkosky, his brothers Robert and Edward Karkosky, his sisters Shirley Geiger, Mary Tabor, and Violet Baab, and is survived by bothers David, William, Larry and Lewis Karkosky, and sisters Daisy Conrad and Eleanor Muise.

Don’s love and devotion shone through in the care he gave to his precious Betty. He will be missed by all who knew him.

A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, December 10, 2023 at 3:00 pm at the South Bumby Church of Christ, located at 3940 S Bumby Ave., Orlando, FL 32806. An Interment Service will be held on Monday, December 11, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, located at 5525 US-1, Mims, FL 32754.
