Obituary

Donald Charles Minnick, born on January 25, 1932 in Lafayette, MN to Charles Minnick and Myrtle (Force) Minnick, was the sixth of seven children. He was the last surviving member of those “magnificent seven.” Don graduated from Oliva High School in Olivia, MN and held various jobs, including serving in the U.S. Army as a Radio Dispatcher in Korea.  After his time in the service, he moved to Florida and married Carol (Johnston) Minnick in 1956. In their 64 years of marriage, Don and Carol had four children: Carrie Minnick Graham of New Smyrna, FL; Jean (Mike) Minnick Diamond of Goose Creek, SC; Tom (Tammy) Minnick of South Daytona, FL and Amy (Mike) Minnick Milam of Prince Frederick, MD.  Don and Carol have 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Don started Minnick Construction, building and remodeling homes throughout Volusia County. He spent years as “Donzi” coaching softball and many years serving at South Daytona Christian Church. He enjoyed watching westerns and the Florida Gators. Don served and loved his family well. Don was a good and humble man who honored the Lord with his life.  His life on earth ended at the age of 89 on May 5, 2021 due to complications from Covid and other issues. His life with Jesus has only just begun.  A celebration of Don’s life will be held on Saturday, May 29, at 11 am at Tomoka Christian Church (1450 Hand Ave, Ormond Beach, FL).  Florida Gator or colorful attire is encouraged.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to North Florida Christian Camp in his name via Tomoka Christian Church. Please notate ‘Don Minnick Memorial’ on checks.
