Donald Lee Shawver, age 72, of New Smyrna Beach passed away on Sunday October 7th after a short
illness.
Don was born in Bluefield, West Virginia, attended Concord College and moved to New Smyrna Beach in
1960. He retired from Computer Science Raytheon at Kennedy Space Center in 2008.
Don has spent the last four years enjoying retirement, playing golf, working in his yard and traveling the country with his wife Ann. In retirement they have travelled by car over 19,000 miles and have taken a 2 week Alaskan cruise. Don enjoyed the history and the beauty in every state they travelled to, often bringing home rocks as souvenirs to use in his flower beds. Along the way they found favorite places to eat, farmer's markets to visit for apples and tomatoes and casinos to throwaway a few dollars. Don also loved to visit his grandchildren's sporting events and greatly enjoying supporting, encouraging
and celebrating all of their accomplishments. In their eyes he did no wrong and was the funniest and greatest grandpa in the world.
Don is survived by his wife of fifty years, Ann, whose, love, dedication and care was unwavering. Other survivors include his two daughters Kim Phillips of New Smyrna Beach and Kelly English and her husband Russell English of Jupiter, four grandchildren Jarrod and Madison Phillips of New Smyrna Beach and Jordan and Brooks English of Jupiter. He is also survived by 2 brothers Gene Shawver of Avon Park and Fagg Shawver of Edgewater, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Harry (Freddie) and Leslie Sargent of New Smyrna Beach and numerous nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents Titus Italy and Alma May Shawver of Edgewater and a sister Dixie Bealieu of Rockledge.
Don was a member of the New Smyrna Beach Municipal Golf Course for the past 35 years and even
though he was never a great golfer he loved his Saturday games, the fellowship and the 19th hole.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Physicians and Nurses on the 7th floor at Halifax
