Doris H. Battey, 90 of Edgewater died Tuesday, July 3, 2012. Doris was born December 16, 1921 in Providence, Rhode Island. She met and married the love of her life Leslie H. Battey on September 20, 1947. They settled in Miami to raise their four children. Doris worked as a Library Assistant for the Dade County Public School System. She and her husband moved to Edgewater in 1989 from Miami. Doris was a devoted wife and mother. She never met a stranger and was loved by all who knew her. She loved to cook and read cookbooks, sing, shop, all animals, and most of all her family. Doris will always be remembered for her songs, jokes and stories which brought smiles to everyone’s face. Doris is survived by her loving husband, Leslie of 65 years; children, Robert (Carol) Battey, Wayne (Diane) Battey, Donna (Chris) Anderson, and Dianne (Craig) LeMieux; seven grandchildren, Kelsey, Cameron, Kyle, Zachary, Russell, Cory and Brandon; sister, Florence Baker and brothers-in-law’s Ralph (Dorothy) Battey, and Raymond Battey, and sisters-in-law, Shirley Eagleson, Elaine (Larry ) Catlow and Eleanor (Dave) Campbell and several nieces and nephews. A life celebration will be held 11:00AM, Friday, July 13, 2012 at the Baldwin Brothers Heritage Place, 1 N. Causeway, New Smyrna Beach. Family and friends will gather beginning at 10:00AM to share stories and memories. Interment to follow at Edgewater-New Smyrna Cemetery with a reception to follow at the family’s home.
