Obituary

Doris Bailey Phelan

September 22, 1928 – February 23, 2017

Born in Oceanside, Long Island, New York to Minneva and William Bailey, Doris was one of three girls and one boy. She graduated from Oceanside High School in 1947 and was voted best-looking in her senior yearbook. It was also in high school where she started to develop her passion as an artist.

After moving to Miami, Florida in 1953 with her parents, she married her childhood sweetheart, Frank Phelan, who passed in 2013. There she had three of her four children. They moved to Asheville, North Carolina in 1968, where she gave birth to a baby boy. They decided to open a light fixture showroom.  In 1979, she and her family returned to Florida, where she lived out the rest of her days.

She is survived by a sister, Lilian Plain of DeLand; four children: Carol Curran of Ormond Beach, Ed Phelan of Tennessee, Kathy Correa of DeBary and Bill Phelan of Edgewater; five grand-children: Michelle Flores, Jennifer Reyes, Gregory Phelan, Emily Phelan and Brianna Curran; and six great-grandchildren: Lia Harrold, Jenna Flores, Nathan Flores, Bodie Reyes, Nixon Reyes and Leah Phelan.

Doris spent her free time painting and sewing. A talented artist, she sold two paintings, reserving the rest of her beautiful artwork for friends and family as priceless gifts.  She was a very loving and giving woman, she loved entertaining and lived life to its fullest.  She will be forever missed by all.

A remembrance celebration will be held at the home of her oldest daughter, Carol, on March 5, 2017 from 1:00pm to 5:00pm.  Call 386-852-2832 for directions.
