Obituary
Dorothy Hardin Henry, 77 of Apopka, Florida passed away peacefully on March 24, 2016. She was born April 3, 1938 in Coweta County, GA to the late Kate Hardin and Robert L. Hardin. She graduated from Griffin High School and was a scholarship graduate of Emory Crawford Long Nursing School in 1961. She worked as a surgical nurse at Griffin Spaulding Hospital. Dorothy met and married Ray Henry in 1965 and the moved to Atlanta, GA. She continued her nursing career at Piedmont Hospital until starting a family of two daughters, Ashley & Shannon. After living in Dallas, TX and Atlanta, again, the family moved to Orlando in 1979. Dorothy took and active role in the early stages of her daughter’s school years. She became a self-taught girls soccer coach and had a girls team in Sweetwater that won several championships. Many of her players later played on Lake Brantley High School team that won the state championship in 1990. In 1985 Dorothy returned to her nursing career and spent 15 years as Assistant Director of Nursing Development at Florida Living Nursing Center. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Ray, her daughters Ashley Emmons (Steve), Shannon Speice (Dan), five grandchildren, Ansley and Morgan Speice, Garrett, Haley, and Cole Emmons, sister Eleanor Burdette (Franklin) sister in law Kathryn Henry. The family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude for the love and care provided to Dorothy by the staff at Florida Living Nursing Center and to Hospice of the Comforter. In lieu of flowers it is requested that donations be made in Dorothy’s name to Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando http://petallianceorlando.org/. Her life will be remembered at a memorial service on April 2nd at Wekiva Presbyterian Church with a gathering of friends and family at 2pm and service at 3pm.
