Obituary

Edith Lucille MacDermott, nee Regler, died unexpectedly in the hospital in DeLand, Florida, on October 31, 2022, at the age of 92.

Edith was born December 4, 1929, in Camden, NJ.  She married Alfred William MacDermott on June 17, 1950.  They celebrated 45 years of marriage before he passed away in 1995.

Edith was a professional volunteer her entire life, she served where her people were involved, PTA to sports concession stands, and Bible school when raising her children.  She volunteered for numerous service organizations wherever she lived.

Later in life, at the age of 80, she started volunteering for a Hospice resale store.  Covid closed that store when she was 90 and she officially retired from volunteering.  She spent the last few years enjoying fellowship with family and friends and participating in the Red Hats, shuffleboard, and her church, Emmaus Lutheran in Orange City, Florida.

Edith lived a full active life, still driving and enjoying her favorite treat, ice cream, until contracting Guillain Barre Syndrome, which took her life a month later.  If you knew her, you were blessed by her.  If you knew her, you were deeply loved by her.  The family would like to send blessings and thanks to all of Edith’s friends and our extended family for filling her life with love and adventures.  The family would like to thank the Advent Health Hospital in DeLand, Florida, 4th-floor staff for the compassionate care our mother received in her last weeks of life.

Edith is survived by her 5 children:  Florence Poole (Jim) of Tavares, Florida, Debra Dittemer of Ringwood, New Jersey,  Alfred MacDermott Jr. (Cyndy) of Auburndale, Florida, Cindy Stein (Mike) of Toledo, Ohio and Brian MacDermott of Avon, Indiana; 13 Grandchildren: Casey Poole, Matt Poole (Marcela), Ryan Dittemer (Anna), Meaghan Dittemer, Susan Rower (Randy), Bob Dittemer (Jennifer), Heather Robertson (Joel), Douglas Mac Dermott (Rhonda), Julia Allen (Jamie), Tony Stein, Jessica Salazar (Angelo), Austin Brown, Makenna Smith; 14 Great-Grandchildren: James Poole, Caleb Evans, Isabel Poole Jeremy Rower, Jessica Rower, Jillian Dittemer, Jeffrey Dittemer, Andrew Dittemer, Max Robertson, Connor Robertson, Parker Robertson, Philip Stein, Landon Allen, Justin Mead (Carrie).  She is preceded in death by her father, John Regler and mother, Anna Knecht Regler as well as four brothers, John Regler, Frank Regler, Ed Regler and Bob Regler, two sisters, Annamae Peterson and Dolores Harrington, her companion of over 13 years, Claude Seguin and a son-in-law, Bob Dittemer.

A celebration of her life is scheduled for Saturday, November 12, 2022, 2:30-4:30 pm at Emmaus Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall in Orange City, Florida.

All are welcome to attend and celebrate Edith’s life!

We will truly miss our dear sister with our Simply Elegant Red Hat Ladies. Edith was always the first to sign up for the monthly activities and hardly missed any month. Edith was a joy to know and a friend to us all and always looked so beautiful, always a classy lady. We all loved her dearly and the upcoming events will be missing a great lady to share our memories with each other. Our prayers are with the family. Love Queen Janie
