Obituary

Edna Irene Bolton, the beloved centerpiece of our family, has completed all the required tests needed in this Life and has been advanced to Eternal Life. Edna was born to Arthur and Edith (Trim) Monckton on April 13, 1922 in the home, at Kingsley, Iowa. Edna attended country school through the 8th grade, then attended Pierson High School and graduated in 1939, after which she went to NAT in Sioux City, Ia. She worked in an Insurance Agency as well as a bank in Moville, Ia. In September, 1943 she joined the Navy and was discharged in April 1946 serving as a Yeoman 2nd Class and spent much of her time in Washington, D.C. On August 12, 1946 she was united in marriage to Merle M. Bolton. They had five children: Linn Ray (Julie); Patsy June (Jim) Gordon; Doyle Ivan; Carol Ann (Dan) Knutson; Robert Merle. They moved to Park Rapids, MN in 1959 and farmed in both Iowa and Minnesota. Edna worked for 20 years in the County Auditor’s office in Park Rapids. She and Merle spent many winters in Arizona and Florida. After retirement, she and Merle traveled to many of the U.S. States, including a 6-week road trip to Alaska with Linn & Julie, and also to England meeting for the first time her first cousins and families. She knew what it was like to suffer illness, struggle financially, and sacrifice for her family. She was a Sunday School teacher in Hubbard and active as a 4-H leader and an active member of the Ladies of the Lakes Homemakers. She enjoyed her Red Hat Ladies Society and served as Secretary to their Wildwood Park Association. Her life was full and interesting. Edna loved to work on photo albums and genealogy, as well accomplishing a large variety of crafts, always coming home with something new she learned during the winter. Her most recent was a large tee shirt quilt highlighting the bands Bobby drove for. She has six grand children, Sarah Gordon Ching (Todd) & Brian (Beth) Gordon, Melissa (David) Armstrong, and Carissa, Courtney & Stephanie Bolton, and 15 great grandchildren, David & Elsie Ching; Blake Gordon; Landen, Khiley & Daniel Armstrong; Blake, Caleb & Cole; Caroline, Anthony, and Amya; Travis, Isaac & Amarianna and several nieces, nephews, special cousin Hilda Benjamin, cousins and special longtime friend Pat Davis. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Merle; a sister in infancy, and brothers, Ivan and Stanley Monckton.  Arrangements by Baldwin Brothers Funerals & Cremations 11250 SW 93rd Ct. Rd. Ocala, FL 352-236-7813.
