Edward “Ned” H. Monaghan Jr. of Silver Springs, FL passed away peacefully at the Ted & Diane Brandley Hospice House on September 18, 2018 at the age of 96. Ned was born to Edward H. & Alice (Shaw) Monaghan in New Brunswick, NJ and the family moved to Bridgeton, NJ his senior year of high school. Following high school Ned joined the U.S. Army and served as a Staff Sergeant within the 89th Infantry Division in the European theatre from 1942-1946. When he returned to the States he met and married Julia Freideman, his wife of 56 years. Ned and Julia had two sons, Edward “Ned” H. Monaghan III and David L. Monaghan. Ned passed on his love of cars, Philadelphia sports teams and working with tools to both of his sons. Ned had a successful 35 year career with New Jersey Bell Telephone Company and retired as an Assignment Bureau Supervisor. Ned was a member of the Brearley Lodge #2, F. & A.M. in Bridgeton for 68 years; was a Master Mason and Past District Deputy Grand Master. He was also a 32nd Degree Member of the Scottish Rite. The Monaghans were active members of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Bridgeton, NJ. In 2002 Ned moved from Bridgeton, NJ to Silver Springs FL to live with his son, daughter in law and two adoring Yorkie grandpups, Bubba and Zoe.
Ned was preceded in death by his wife, Julia and their son, David. Ned is survived by his son and daughter in law, Edward “Ned” Monaghan III and Nancy Monaghan of Silver Springs, Florida; his daughter in law, Kathy Valentine and her husband Pete Valentine of Bridgeton, NJ; and his only grandchild and pride and joy, Mark E.
Monaghan of New Brunswick, NJ.

A committal ceremony with military honors will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. All are welcome to attend. Following the ceremony on
October 6th the family will receive friends after 1 p.m. at the home of Ned and Nancy in Silver Springs.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Ned may be made to Hospice of Marion County, P.O. Box 4860, Ocala FL 34476-4860.
