Obituary
McGowan, Edward, 82, passed away at Hope Hospice in Fort Myers, FL on September 14, 2022. Ed is survived by his beloved longtime partner, Marie Dougherty, daughters Beth McGowan Welch, Colleen McGowan Lehmann, son-in-law Karl Lehmann, and four Grandchildren who he was immensely proud of: Emma & Lauren Lehmann and Marli & Eric Welch (his “Three Squirrels and a Chipmunk”). Ed’s extended family and friends were loved deeply and were such a joy in his life. Ed joins his brother Bob and Grace Day McGowan, his ex-wife and dear friend, in looking over their family.
Ed was born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Edward H. and Margaret Wilson. He was a graduate of Northeast Catholic High School and Penn State University, Class of 1963. In his early years, Ed spent his summers at the Jersey Shore and worked for the South Atlantic Taxi Company, in Margate, where he met Grace. They raised their family in Longport and Ed went on to have a career in real estate and insurance at Phillips & Dart Real Estate and Shuttleworth & Rowe.
Ed lived life to the fullest and loved every second of it. He was quick-witted and loved to make people laugh with one of his sometimes-sideways jokes. He loved spending time with family & friends, golfing, fishing, and reading the newspaper from cover to cover every day. In recent years, one of his favorite places was Lexington Country Club in Fort Myers. He especially loved spending Friday nights at The Club with Marie and Bette (aka “the Three Musketeers”) and many other days at The Tiki with their many friends.
A visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. followed by a 12 noon funeral Mass on Monday, November 21, 2022 at Epiphany Catholic Church 2801 Ventnor Ave, Longport NJ 08403.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ed’s name to Hope Hospice, 9470 Healthpark Circle, Fort Myers FL 33908 or online at www.morehope.org
Pop pop and his three squirrels and a chipmunk!
While I only got to meet your dad twice (with Fred) I could tell from his "quips" that he was a witty & fun-loving person who was very much loved. My thoughts & prayers have been with you & your families.
Sincerely,
Jackie
