Obituary

Edward Roy Gillis, 78, former resident of New Smyrna Beach died Friday, March 20, 2009 at a local care center under the care of Hospice.   Mr Gillis was born in Connecticut, was one of six children of the late William E and Helen W Gillis. One brother and two sisters preceded him in death as well as his long time partner O.H. McKenney. He is survived by a sister Elizabeth Gillis of Boston, a brother Don Gillis and wife Ann of Edgewater, and nephew Terry Bradshaw and wife Peggy of New Smyrna Beach, nieces Carol Paprocki, Margaret Bradshaw, nephews Richard Tucker, David Gillis and Robert Tucker.         Memorial services and burial will be this summer in Kingston, Rhode Island. Baldwin Brothers Funeral & Cremation Service New Smyrna Beach in charge of cremation arrangements.

    My sincere sympathy to the family of Ed. My husband and I knew Ed through our friendship with Herb, and were guests in their home, they in ours, many times. He was a fine gentleman and a devoted friend. Your memories of Ed will sustain you.

    Our sympathy to everyone in Ed's family. Herb and Ed were our next door neighbors on Florida Ave. in NSB. We still fondly think of all of the hospitality, wit and intelligence they brought to our lives. I will forever remember them on that street.
