Obituary
Edythe Downey of Edgewater, Florida passed away peacefully at the age of 81 surrounded by family on Tuesday, January 18, 2022. She was born in Rochester, NY on October 12, 1940, the daughter of Walter and Gertrude (Herod) Lage and grew up in Brockport, NY. Throughout the years she lived in various locations throughout upstate New York and moved to Florida in 2006.
Edie was a loving and beautiful person with a carefree spirit who was always quick to smile and laugh. She was married to Gordon Thompson (deceased), engaged to Howard Logan (deceased), and lastly married her high school sweetheart, Milton Downey in 1985. She last worked for Pinkerton Security prior to retiring. Throughout her years she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, being involved in Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, camping, dancing, playing guitar, reading books, and watching shows about true crime.
Edie was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Milton Downey, brother and sister-in-law Donald and Reta Lage, son Eric Downey and granddaughter Jacquelyn Lombardo.
Edie is survived by her sister Marilyn Lage, her brother Walter “Bud” (Cindy) Lage, her children James (Mary) Thompson, Nancy (Joseph) Lombardo, Timothy (Jeanine) Downey and Craig (Rebecca) Downey. She is also survived by her grandchildren Bianca Thompson, Sage (Alex) Lombardo, Deanna (Nathan) and Karri Ance, Julie (Brent) Lundin, Christopher, Cassandra, Michael, Justin, and Steven Downey, her great grandchildren Cuchulain, Dominic, Christopher, Rebecca and Annalise and niece of the heart Tracy (Joseph) Loiacono along with many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
In addition to her family, over the last year Edie was lovingly cared for by the owners, the team members and the residents who were her friends at Brilliance Assisted Living in Edgewater, FL.
A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, February 25, 2022 from 3PM – 5PM at Baldwin Brothers Funeral and Cremation Society 1 North Causeway, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32169. In leu of flowers, a donation in Edythe’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
