Obituary

Elaine Lupo Adams left this Earth on September 22, 2021 at the Halifax Hospice Care Center in Edgewater, Florida. She passed peacefully, surrounded by family.

Elaine was born on October 25,1928 in Stateline, Mississippi to Rhoda Edra Hagan and William Lupo. Shortly after she moved to Wray, Gerogia, where she was raised by her father and grandmother. She always recalled fond memories of her grandmother’s fresh garden vegetables and working with her sister on various farms, picking cotton and tobacco.

Elaine later moved to Jacksonville, Florida where she finished school and met her first husband, Ira D. Miller Sr, and for the next 15 years they raised their 4 children.

Elaine worked many jobs while moving between Georgia and Florida over the next several years, including cashiering at Food Fair, a seamstress working in sewing factories, and working in housekkeping at various hotels. She retired from Halifax Hospital at 62 where she worked in the laundry room for many years.

Elaine’s favorite hobby was playing Bingo. She also loved to read, and until she began to lose her sight, could always be found with a book in her hand. Her favorite author was Zane Grey, and she was proud of the full collection of his works that she compiled over time. John Wayne was her favorite actor, and Gone With the Wind her favorite movie. She loved the old west and all of the stories that came with it.

Elaine was preceeded in death by her mother and father; husband, George; sister, Juanita Rowell; daughter, Eva Smith; and son, Ira D. Miller Jr. She is survived by her 2 daughters, Kathy Miller (Glenn) and Myrtice Didrence; and son-in-law Earl Smith; 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, and several neices and nephews.

Services for Elaine will be held at a later date.
