Eleanor Bordwell passed away Saturday July 6, after a 9 year battle with breast cancer, at the Port Orange Hospice Care Center, with her family by her side. Ellie was born January 30, 1940 in Philadelphia, PA, to Raymond and Gertrude Broll. She fought strongly against the cancer, never giving up hope, and was not ready to let go of her place on this earth.
She is survived by her large loving family, including husband Jim, two sons, Stephen Smith, and Stuart Smith and wife Lorraine, daughter Sheila Robinson and husband Parker, brothers Raymond, George, and Carl Broll; sisters Jeannie Hollenbach, Katy Fulton, and Marian Kopta; 7 granddaughters (Amanda, Candence & Elaine Smith, as well as Leah Smith, Sarah Robinson, Nicole Robinson, & Amy Moore)and 4 great-grandchildren (Annabelle, Victoria, Katherine Smith; Connor Moore).
Ellie was an avid Clay Target shooter, and was a founding member of the Volusia County Skeet and Trap Club and was very instrumental in its formation and operation. There she had many friends and will be greatly missed.
She also spent many years as a member of the Daytona Beach Boat Club, and the Chapter FL1H Gold Wing Club. Ellie and Jimmy enjoyed riding their Goldwing Touring bike through most of the United States.
Ellie also loved dancing, and spent a lot of time with good friends line dancing, and going to Zumba Gold in Daytona Beach Shores.
She enjoyed cooking, and was known at the chemo center in Port Orange for watching cooking shows. She made the best Pecan Pie around! She also grew grapes and made her own wine, which everyone wanted more of.
Ellie was a strong and independent woman. She was a valuable employee, working at The Domestic Abuse Council as an accountant.
She was kind and big-hearted, a great friend, and a wonderful mom.
Mom/Ellie, we will miss you; we will keep you in our hearts forever, and see you on the other side.
At you, she will always be there! You are a great boss
And a good friend, always here if you need me!
Don and I will truly miss Ellie. God bless Ellie & Jim and the family.
