Obituary
Elizabeth (Ann), (Tower) Ahern, 84, of South Daytona, Florida, passed away peacefully at Bishops Glen Retirement Community in Holly Hill, Florida, early Thursday morning, November 3, 2016. Born in Springfield, Massachusetts to the late Theron Tower and Mary (Sheehan) Tower, she attended Cathedral high school in Springfield, MA and Westfield State Teachers College. Ann taught elementary school in Brimfield, MA for 36 years where she resided and raised six children with her former husband Edward J. Ahern Jr. (deceased). Ann has enjoyed retirement in Daytona for the past 22 years at Lakeview Estates. She attended Mass regularly at Epiphany Catholic Church in Port Orange. Ann loved being a devoted grandmother and great grandmother and taking her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to the beach. She was kind and compassionate and always put everyone else before herself. She was a devout Catholic and spent many hours volunteering and writing letters to friends and family. She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends. She is survived by sons Michael Ahern (Linda) of East Windsor, New Jersey; Paul Ahern of Raiford, Florida; Timothy Ahern of South Daytona and Thomas Ahern (Marcella) of Alexandria Virginia; and daughter Karen Alostaz (Buddy), of Kuwait City, Kuwait; five grandchildren, Andrew, Kerry, Rachel, Shannon and Quinn, and four great grandchildren. Ann was predeceased by her son, Kevin Ahern, and her sisters Rosemary Maloney and Ellen Whalen. She is also survived by her brother, George Tower of Southwick, Massachusetts, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Debbie Viola and Mario Porco for their heartfelt love and devotion to Ann over the years. Funeral services will be held at Baldwin Funeral Home, South Daytona Beach on Wednesday November 9th at 4 :00 PM. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Ann’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital online at stjudes.org.
