Obituary

Elizabeth “Betty” (Kratky) Strand, 81, of Wildwood, FL, (formerly from New Berlin, WI) passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 21, 2023. She lost her long and courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis after spending 27 days in the ICU and 5 days in hospice care.Betty was born to Bernard & Elsie (Staral) Kratky, Sullivan, WI, on February 21, 1942. After graduating from Jefferson High School in 1960, she moved to Milwaukee where she studied to become a licensed beautician. In 1966, Betty married Ray Strand and were blessed with nearly 58 years together. She owned her own salon in Milwaukee for 20 years and later worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 11 years. In 2014, Betty & Ray retired to Florida, from New Berlin, where she enjoyed the sun, warm winters, golfing, country-club life and watching the resident alligator in the pond across the street.Betty is survived by her husband, Ray; her brother Bernard (Miu Leung), Vancouver, WA; sister Diane (Don) MacDonald, Madison; and brother Doug (Teri), Jefferson; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her father (1991) and her mother (2005).
A visitation will be held at Holy Apostles Catholic Church, New Berlin, WI on Friday,
April 26, 2024 at 11 a.m.  Funeral mass will be held at 11:30 with luncheon to follow.  After the luncheon, Betty will be buried next to her parents at St. Mary’s Help of Christians Catholic Church Cemetery in Sullivan, WI.
