Obituary
Elizabeth (“Betty”) Louise Griffin, 89, went to be with the Lord on September 7, 2017 at Edgewater Nursing Home in Mt. Dora, FL, after an extended battle with cancer. A recent transplant to Florida, she was born August 31, 1928 to George Abner and Ruth Elizabeth (White) Bertrand in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Her husband of almost 56 years, Jim, preceded her in death in 2004 as well as her brother James Bertrand in 2007. She is survived by her four children, Sandra Jewell of Tavares, FL, Karen Gleason of Livermoor, CO, William Griffin of Springfield, MO and James Griffin of Farmington, NM; two sisters, Mary Ebbinghaus, Lake Barrington, IL and Nancy Fentress, Loveland, CO; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Betty attended Hiram College before marrying Jim Griffin on December 19, 1948. Not only a full time Mom, she made time to be a Cub Scout Den Mother and Campfire Leader. She was involved in every church the family attended, often playing piano or organ, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School and being involved in various Women’s Ministries activities. When the “empty nest” arrived, she expanded to be church secretary and then moved into the Travel Industry, working on various travel and accommodation books.
Betty loved to bowl, garden and make friends with anyone she met. She also loved to travel and was a frequent “cruiser” visiting such places as Alaska, Hawaii, the Panama Canal, the Mexican Riviera and numerous Caribbean islands.
Services will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the Trinity Assembly of God church in Fruitland Park, FL at 11:00 AM. Burial will be with her husband, Jim, at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO.
