Obituary

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our loving and devoted mother Elizabeth (Betty) Jane Smith, who entered eternal life on Thursday, May 27, 2021.

Born in Washington, DC on April 28, 1949 to Elizabeth Jane Lanzillotti and Clayton Frank Hill.

Betty was a resident of Deland, Florida for the past 15 years, formerly from Panama City Beach and Tallahassee, Florida.  Betty lived a full life as a wonderful mother and friend to all whose lives she touched.  She loved to cook and cater to all, believing that this is what brings family together.  She had a heart of gold and made everyone feel welcome and part of the family.  She instilled in her children a sense of kindness, gratitude and sacrifice and could find humor in any situation.  Betty was a dedicated public servant working for the State of Florida and exhibited a true Italian grit, perseverance and determination, a spirit that served as a role model to her family.  Her spirit is carried on by her four children, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Preceded in death of parents, Elizabeth Jane and Clayton Frank Hill and the love of her life and father to her children Frederick John Smith.

She is survived by her children Deborah Marie Guillen of Tampa, Florida, Tammy Marie Jimenez of Quincy, Florida, Frederick John Smith, II of Deland, Florida, and Clayton Frank Smith of Tampa, Florida; proud grandmother of Jagger Guillen, Elizabeth Jane Zamora, Marco & Gabriela Navarro-Garcia, Grant, Jacob & Daniel Smith, and Kennedy Smith; and great grandmother to Peyton Edenfield and Jordan & Jazzlyn Navarro; her brother John Clayton Hill of Murrrells Inlet, South Carolina, sister Patricia Deborah Coggins of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina; and her uncles Robert Franklin Lanzillotti of Gainesville, Florida and Edmund Ferraccio Emilio Lanzillotti of Washington, DC.

Stepmother Virginia Hill of Frederick Maryland, brothers Phillip Hill of Union Bridge, Maryland, Paul Hill of Hagerstown, Maryland, sisters, Robin Hill of Frederick, Maryland and Mary Sue Burek of Martinsburg, West Virginia.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life at a later date.

"Grandma Betty" will forever live in my heart... she was a very special lady. We had the pleasure of having her stay in our home, while she lived in Massachusetts. She always went out of her way to help in any way possible; making dinner for us, tidying up the house, watching over the kids (who all loved her), and most importantly --sharing her light, love, and spirit each and every day. Her smile was bright, her laughter was contagious, her stories were captivating, her advice was gentle and honest. She was an amazing member of our 'family' and I will always remember her. Rest in peace, beautiful Betty. Sending prayers to her children, her grandchildren, and all who loved her.
