Obituary

Emily “Ann” Maltby

9-8-32 – 4/24/20

Emily “Ann” Maltby, was born in Miami, Florida on Sept. 8, 1932 and was the only child of Howard Hugh Bethell, an immigrant from the Bahamas and Mary Ellington Bethell, who was born and raised in Georgia.  Ann graduated from Miami High School in 1950 and married Leslie Arthur “Art” Maltby on June 5, 1953 and they were just 6 weeks shy of celebrating 67 years of marriage at the time of her death.  Ann and Art raised three children, Howard, Nancy and Ginny and Ann was proud of her children’s careers and accomplishments.  Ann is preceded in death by her parents, her son Howard, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Her husband, Art, shares that Ann was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and cousin and that her family was everything to her.  Ann’s daughters will forever cherish the many special memories of their mother and have the utmost gratitude to her for raising them to be faithful to God and family, to value education, to be independent as well as to serve and care for others.  Ann loved her two sons-in-law, Stuart and Don and her grandchildren Lauren and Jason very much. Being an only child, Ann was very close to Art’s sister, Alice, and she was the Maid of Honor at their wedding. Ann had two special brothers-in-law, Earl and Jim.

Ann was proud of her heritage and being a native Miamian and Floridian and always had a keen interest in her family’s genealogy.  Being an Episcopalian and her stewardship to her church began as a child and her faith has been steadfast all of her life.  Her work life included working in a bank, a doctor’s office, and serving as a church and school financial secretary.

Ann/Mom – we will always love you, we will miss you dearly and we know you are now in a better place.

Ann was the dearest soul and I appreciated so much her presence whenever we'd get together at church. Art and Ann were special members of our evening congregation and we always enjoyed singing together. I have missed them since their move from Gainesville, and only just now found that they had moved again--to their Heavenly home. May God continue to bless the family with his grace and presence. Deepest condolences to all.
