Obituary
Ernest S. Cornwell, Jr., of Saginaw, passed away in his sleep early morning Friday, December 22, 2017. He had turned 90 this past September. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Cornwell, and their daughter Caroline Giddens. He will be lovingly remembered by sons Peter Cornwell, Steven and Kacey Cornwell; grandchildren Sean and Michelle Cornwell, Eric Cornwell, Nate Cornwell, Kristen Cornwell, Tyler Giddens, Ben Giddens; great grandchildren Alistair and Rinoa Cornwell; many nieces and nephews; and the lifelong extended “family” at Mullett Lake, Michigan.
Ernie was a graduate of Michigan State University and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was active in commerce working in the wholesale lumber business eventually serving as President of Cornwell Lumber Company in Saginaw. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed cards, and spent his summers at the family cottage at Mullett Lake where he was very active with the Mullett Lake Country Club. A memorial service will be held at the Mullett Lake Country Club celebrating his life on June 2, 2018. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Mullett Area Preservation Society (MAPS) or to the Little Traverse Conservancy.
