Two of the first words I learned to speak were “Aunt Elsie” and “Uncle ES”. I did not hear anyone call him "Gene" until I was a teenager. Uncle ES was very dear to me, and he was always a special person in my life. I am blessed to have a wonderful extended family.

Uncle ES was my favorite uncle when I was growing up because his home was also in Tahlequah, Oklahoma (where my family lived until we moved to Muskogee in 1954). He made a big impact on my life because of his outgoing personality and his good nature. As I got older I began to realize that I am really blessed to have a wonderful extended family. I loved to hear the Southern Gospel music that my grandfather James and his family sang whenever they would gather around the piano and sing as my aunt Elsie or my mother would accompany us. The last time we visited Uncle ES and Ludeen in Florida; he insisted that he wash our car before Debbie and I left there to return to our home in Muskogee. He was just that kind of man. I regret that I haven't been able to get to see my cousins and their families more often. But that is just the way it is when family members move away from their hometown to raise their families close to their work. I wish that I could have been a great uncle like my Uncle ES.

Words just can’t express the impact and Godly example Uncle ES has had in our lives. May we all aspire to mention God in each and every conversation to ensure that no one can say we failed to share the word of Christ!

I will always remember all the time's that I got to sing with Uncle Gene! Uncle Gene always my favorite Uncle, and will be missed! My thoughts and prayers for the family.
