In Loving Memory of Eugenia Roberts Cowper Highsmith of New Smyrna Beach/Oak Hill Florida formerly of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.
Born on February 3, 1957, in Windsor, NC, Gene was the cherished wife of Robert and the loving mother of Laura, Sarah, Sally, and Jill and grandmother of Emily. Gene passed away peacefully on January 3rd, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was a woman of uncompromising integrity, unwavering strength and unparalleled grit.
Gene was a beacon of strength, love and support for her family. Her daughters and granddaughter were the light of her life and brought her endless joy. Her devotion to her family knew no bounds, and her love knew no limits. She would move oceans for the ones she loved. Gene had a strong moral compass that helped guide her throughout her life. She never gave up on anyone and saw the best in every person that crossed her path.
Alongside her husband, Robert, Gene created a home filled with warmth, laughter, love and many home knitted scarfs, hats and Christmas ornaments that her family will continue to cherish. Among her many accomplishments in life was her professional career which included 45 years in the real estate industry & owning and operating, Island Rentals with her husband. Gene was an avid gardener with a green thumb that brought life to everything she touched. She found tremendous joy when she was creating things for the ones she loved, sipping a hot cup of coffee on the porch or reading a good book.
Gene is survived by her husband of 46 years Robert, and children Laura (Brian), Sarah (Shawn), Sally (Eric) and Jill (Jeffrey), granddaughter Emily (Georgiy), sisters Harriett (Bo) and Ann. Gene was preceded in death by her parents William and Helen Cowper, her sister Helen and her brother Bill.
