Obituary
Evelyn Marie Sturgis, 70, of Port Charlotte, passed away on Monday, July 31, 2023. She is survived by her husband, Glenn Sturgis Sr., two sons, Glenn Sturgis Jr. and Alex Sturgis, both of Port Charlotte, one daughter, Emily Sturgis of Port Charlotte, five sisters, Denise King of Topeka, KS, Janet Kristinat of North Port, FL, Joyce Hesse, of Topeka, KS, Lea Scism of California, April Miller of California, one brother, Al Miller of California.
Evelyn and her husband Glenn had a storybook romance that started when they were kids and continued with a marriage that lasted 52 years. Evelyn loved all her extended family, which numbered by many, both by blood and by choice. She had a special place in her heart for Debbie Meyer and Star Hummer whom she considered to be her best friends as well as family. Evelyn made everyone around her laugh and feel welcomed. Her humor carried many conversations during gatherings of friends and family. She enjoyed hosting taco nights, New Years Eve parties and hunting for good bargains during K-Mart blue light specials.
Her boys were her world. There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for them. She would bake dozens of peanut butter cookies for the boys whenever they asked. The boys loved her peanut butter cookies so much that they would sign her up to bring them for school functions and tell her about it later. She was devoted to their education and pushing them to do their best. Even when she wasn’t feeling well, she would do everything she could to take care of them and see to it that they had what they needed to succeed in any endeavor they wanted to take on. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
