Fern A. Hill, Age 91, gained her angel wings on September 22, 2022, in Port Orange, FL.
She was the loving mother of Patty Anderson & Bobbi (Rick) Eskey, all of Port Orange; grandmother of Chrissy (Bryan) Kubek of Oswego, IL, Tim (Meghan) Anderson of Elmhurst, IL, Megan (John) Thies of Naperville, IL, Katie Eskey of Naperville, IL; great-grandmother of Duncan & Nathan Kubek, Audrey, Evan & Owen Anderson, Rose & Mark Thies, Shelby & Shana Schutzenhofer. She is also survived by her siblings Bill (Kay) Harrison of Benson, MN, Carole Ruppert of Geneva, IL, Bonnie (Rick) Peterson of Shell Lake, WI, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Fern was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bob Van Alstine, in 1978, and her cherished son, Tom Van Alstine, in 1997, as well as her sisters-in-law, Loretta (Myron) Heppner & Arlene (Warren) Volkening, & nephews, Lee (Freda) Heppner & Mike (Kris) Volkening.
Fern was born on October 10, 1930 in Chicago, IL to William & Jean Harrison. She graduated in 1948 from Leyden Community High School in Franklin Park, IL. In 1951 she married Bob & they raised their three children in Bartlett, IL. She retired to Florida in 1983.
Beloved to all that knew her, she was energetic & fun loving throughout her long life and was very active in her community, where she enjoyed bowling and dancing with the Crane Lakes Rockettes. When she turned 80, she said she was happy to have made it that far and decided there should be a club for ladies 80 and over, which she created and named the “Eighty Ladies”. She wanted the group to be different from others, to be a Sisterhood, to know that they could count on each other if they needed a hand to hold or an ear to listen, and to also have fun, enjoy life and be healthy and happy for as long as possible. She was a joy, and exemplary parent, family member and a special friend. She will be happy eternally as her spirit soars in the heavens.
A Celebration of her Life will be held from 3 – 6 pm on October 27th at the Crane Lakes Community Ballroom.
God Bless and rest in Gods arms
