Celebration of Life for Florence Shriver, 97, New Smyrna Beach who died Monday, November 17, 2008 will be 11:00 AM Thursday, November 20 at Baldwin Brothers Memorial Chapel North Causeway New Smyrna Beach with The Reverend Don Reiter of Trinity Lutheran Church New Smyrna Beach officiating. Interment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Hanover, PA.
Florence was born January 31, 1911 and raised in Littlestown, PA, graduated from Hanover High School and Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA. Following graduation from college she ran the business for her father’s car dealership, Basehoar Ford in Littlestown. On October 10, 1944 she married Judge Harry C Shriver in Washington, DC. Over the years they lived in Bethesda, MD, Massena, NY, Potomac, MD, and Annapolis, MD before purchasing a home in New Smyrna Beach in 1974. Judge Shriver passed away in 1986. Florence has been an active member of Fairgreen Garden Club, Women’s Club of New Smyrna Beach, former member of AAUW and attended Trinity Lutheran Church New Smyrna Beach where she was a member of the Mary Meier Circle. She also enjoyed rummikub, word finds and watching college football and professional baseball.
She leaves to cherish her memory daughters Anne Bielot and Louise Armstrong both of New Smyrna Beach and son Harry C Shriver, Jr of Arvada, CO, six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, sister-in-law Janet Basehoar and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry Shriver and brother John D Basehoar.
