Obituary

John (95) and Frances (92) Kohout passed away earlier this year, at home in Fort Myers, Florida, in the care of their loving daughter Diane Emerson.

John was born May 8, 1926, in Cleveland, Ohio. After growing up in Waverly, Virginia he served honorably as a demolitions expert in the 127th Airborne, Engineering Division of the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Frances was born August 8, 1929, in Prince George, Virginia. They were married on December 15, 1951, in Prince George, Virginia at Gregory Memorial Presbyterian Church and together they built a life centered around family and friendship. John went on to enjoy a lengthy career with C & P Telephone and Frances held several administrative roles, including many years with Fidelity Bankers Life Insurance Company, before they retired in 1988 and 1993 respectively to enjoy life at their farm and Virginia Beach homes. Over the years they were quite active in several civic organizations and enjoyed attending fundraising events and social gatherings. John and Frances traveled extensively embarking on many cruises together with friends and family. They also enjoyed many outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, and boating. Frances was an avid baseball and football fan, and both were well known for their love of their dogs Fritz and Lucky. They had a gift for finding hidden gems and meeting interesting people at local yard sales and delighted in placing chocolate and candy around the house to bring joy to family and visitors. They will be remembered unequivocally for their exceptionally generous hospitality.

John and Frances were predeceased by Frances’s mother Inez Waymack, father George Waymack Sr., brother George Waymack Jr (Bubba), in addition to John’s mother Josephine Kohout, father John Kohout (Tank), and brothers George and Alvin Kohout. They are survived by their beloved daughter Diane Emerson and her husband Henry, grandsons Jonathan Scott (wife Jennifer), Andrew Gill (wife Crissy), Aaron Gill (wife Nicole), and great grandchildren Gretchen, Oliver, and Adaline Scott, and Daniel Gill. They are also survived by Frances’ sister-in-law Marlene Waymack, nephew Bruce Waymack, and niece Jackie Waymack, among many other extended family members and friends.

While we celebrate with full hearts the long and happy lives John and Frances enjoyed, they will be missed dearly by many.
