Francis L. Lombardi, 85, of New Smyrna Beach died on his 85th birthday Monday, November 24, 2008 in Coconut Creek, FL with his family by his side. Mr. Lombardi was born November 24, 1923 in Syracuse, NY. He was veteran of the US Army Air Corp. serving as a pilot during WW II, upon his discharge he was ranked as Captain. Mr. Lombardi graduated from Cornell University with a degree in engineering and worked for many years as an engineer with the Joseph A. Cashier Sheet Metal, Syracuse, NY retiring in 1985. In 1978 he and his beloved wife who preceded him in death after 50 years of marriage, Patricia become winter residents to New Smyrna Beach from Syracuse, NY. Mr. Lombardi enjoyed golf and being with his family. He is survived by two devoted children, Kevin and his wife, Lucia of Coconut Creek, FL and Janice Niesen of Portland, OR; five grandchildren, Jason, Drew, and Jessica Lombardi, Benjamin and Shawn Niesen; brother, Donald Lombardi and sister, Gloria McGarry.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
