Frank Edward Fitchett, Jr., (Ed), 88, of Daytona Beach, Florida passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 13, 2021. Ed was born March 22, 1932 in Hartsville, South Carolina, to Emily Twitty and Frank Edward Fitchett, Sr.
Ed attended Hartsville area schools through 9th grade and then Woodberry Forest School in VA, Sewanee Military Academy and later Sewanee University in TN and Duke University in NC.
Ed loved sports. He wrestled and played football in high school and college. He was an avid fisherman, boat racer and swimmer. He loved living near the beach and swimming every day. He was a Master Gardener and enjoyed gardening and raising orchids.
Ed worked in Sporting Goods for many years before transitioning into the boating business, founding Marquis Boats, based in Hartsville SC and Jacksonville, AR, and later co-founded Marathon Boats, located in Kershaw SC. The past several years, he purchased, renovated, and resold condos in the Daytona and Ormond Beach Florida area.
Ed is survived by his daughter Dorothy F. (Gary) Jeger, Bluffton, SC; son, Frank Edward (Ulli) Fitchett III of Switzerland; five grandchildren, Allyn (Jamie) Oliver, Amanda (Shawn) Bowman, Ashley Venable, Brandon McDonald and Emilie Fitchett; sister-in-law Barbara Smith Cooley; and five great grandchildren, Bryson, Quinn, Zac, Grayson and Alana. Ed is also survived by his beloved cat, Layla, who brought him much joy. Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Emily Twitty and Frank Edward Fitchett Sr; wife Suzanne McGee Smith; sister, Emily Fitchett Segars; and daughters, Susan F. Cannon and Mary Craig Matsche.
Arrangements are being handled by Baldwin Brothers Funeral Home of Ormond FL. A beachside Memorial Service will be held at 8:00 AM in front of the Plaza Resort & Spa Hotel, 600 N. Atlantic Avenue, Daytona Beach, on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, and will be officiated by Sam Mullen Chaplain with Vitas Hospice Care of Daytona.
