Obituary

Freddie J. Tassin, 87, of New Smyrna Beach died Tuesday, September 15, 2009 peacefully at home with his family by his side.  Fred was born March 1, 1922 in LaPlace, LA.  In 1942, during World War II, he joined the United States Coast Guard and worked out of the Ports of Ft. Lauderdale and West Palm Beach.  In West Palm Beach he met the love of his life Mildred Moon and married her on October 26, 1944.  He continued his service time until November 1945.  After he was discharged from the service he and Mildred stayed in West Palm Beach.  Fred worked with Tuppens Cabinetry Shop which became Tuppens Boat & Motors until his retirement.  In 2006 they moved to New Smyrna Beach to be near their daughter.  Fred was of the Catholic faith and was a true craftsman.  He could fix anything and loved working with his hands.  One of Fred’s other passions was gardening and growing his delicious pineapples.  He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Mildred; children, Skip (Sheryll) Tassin of St. Augustine, Gary Tassin of Palm Beach Gardens, Jeffrey Tassin of Chattanooga, TN, and Jennifer (Bill) Manke of New Smyrna Beach; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; his Godchild, Lilly Dufrene of LaPlace, LA; and many nieces and nephews.  Hospice of Volusia-Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, 32129 11:00AM at Baldwin Brothers Cremation Society 1 North Causeway New Smyrna Beach, FL 32169 on September 21, 2009 (map/driving directions) 10:00Am to 11:00AM at Baldwin Brothers Cremation Society 1 North Causeway New Smyrna Beach, FL 32169 on September 21, 2009 (map/driving directions) Edgewater - New Smyrna Cemetery 700 Ridgewood Avenue Edgewater, FL 32132 (map/driving directions)
