Fred was a stalwart friend when he served with us in the Long Range Recon. Patrols (Airborne) in Germany in the early sixties. I was particularly close to him and fascinated when he would talk about his stock car racing days. He was the company comedian. I particularly recall incidents when we would be given the order to "fall out for chow" Fred would respond with a barking dog imitation after which we would be ordered to fall back in again. We would be asked to identify the comedian but of course no one would give him up. He could be relied upon to always raise our morale with his antics. On a serious note, Fred was very patriotic and took great pride in serving our country. This is evidenced when one notes the tours he spent in Viet Nam with an airborne unit when he could have transferred to a support unit which was less hazardous. We had the good fortune to meet with him at our reunion and talk of old times. He loved his family, his country, and his friends. He was a giant. "All the way old buddy" 'til we meet again.
