Obituary

G James “Jim” Morgan, born on September 8, 1946, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Griffith and Charlotte Morgan. He passed away peacefully on August 11, 2024, at the age of 77.

A beloved and admired husband, father, and grandfather, Jim is deeply missed by those around him. Jim is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janet; his son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Evelyn Morgan; his daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Steve Jones; and his granddaughters Stevie (3), Ellie (7), Charlotte (10), Emily (21), Paola (23), and Camila (24).

Jim graduated from Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with a Master of Civil Engineering degree. He served as a civil engineer in the Pennsylvania and Florida State Departments of Transportation, rising to the management ranks of the Engineering District overseeing Volusia County and its surrounding eight counties before his retirement from government service in 1999. He then co-founded the Jaunts by Janet Travel Agency with wife Janet and traveled extensively, with a special passion for cruises and his “backyard” of the Eastern Caribbean.

He was passionate about life. In addition to his love for travel, he enjoyed cooking and convivial meals with family. He had a great sense of humor and was well-known for his jokes and stories. He spent countless hours tutoring his children and then grandchildren in mathematics. He enjoyed sports, especially watching the Little League Baseball World Series every summer, attending the Daytona Tortugas and other minor league baseball games, viewing different football games on multiple TV screens simultaneously, and visiting his favorite in-person venue to watch Army Football at Michie Stadium in West Point, New York. Most of all, he was passionately in love with his lifelong partner, Janet, and enthusiastically proud of his children and grandchildren.

A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at the First Church of Port Orange at 305 Dunlawton Avenue on November 9, 2024, at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to charity, particularly to the causes important to Jim: supporting American’s military veterans (such as the West Point Association of Graduates at https://alumni.westpointaog.org/giveonline
) and supporting education in the fields of engineering, mathematics, and sciences (such as Drexel University’s College of Engineering at https://drexel.edu/engineering/ or Khan Academy at https://donate.khanacademy.org/).
