Gary Lyn Pinnix, 75, of Sarasota, Florida, passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of November 5, 2025.

Born on July 17, 1950, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Gary was the son of Juanita Porter and Robert Pinnix. He graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School and went on to live a life full of hard work, humor, and love.

Throughout his life, Gary held several occupations, including working for the U.S. Postal Service, and later retiring from providing pool service and maintenance throughout the Sarasota–Bradenton area. He was known for his dedication, strong work ethic, and the friendships he built along the way.

Gary was passionate about golf — always analyzing his swing, following every sport imaginable, and offering his unsolicited but often spot-on opinions about strategy and player performance. He enjoyed occasional trips to the casinos or racetracks, keeping a friendly running tally with his wife for annual bragging rights.

As a father, Gary devoted countless hours helping his children excel in sports, and as a grandfather, he found immense joy in watching his grandchildren grow.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Holcombe; his children — daughter Megan Pinnix, daughter Mandy Cline and her husband Michael Cline, and son Jordan and his wife Morgan Pinnix — and their mother, Dana Pinnix, who shared in raising and shaping the family he loved so much; along with six adored grandchildren: Rylee, Emma, James, Scarlett, Aubree, and Sammy.

Gary Pinnix was a stubborn, opinionated, loyal, outspoken, wise-cracking, brave, and loving man. His strength and confidence never came at the expense of others, and his unique perspective on life made an unforgettable impression on everyone who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.

The family will celebrate Gary’s life in a private gathering at a later date, surrounded by the love and stories he left behind.
