Obituary

Gary Stephen Pinsker, beloved son, father, husband, and friend, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on October 31, 2022 at the age of 74. Gary was born on January 11, 1948 to Beverly and Eli Pinsker in Mount Vernon, NY. He worked as a high school teacher in Orange County, NY, impacting the lives of hundreds of students.

Gary was predeceased by his beloved wife, Jerilynne, who passed away just three years after they welcomed their daughter, Beth Cara. Gary dedicated his life to raising Beth, his pride and joy, and their deep bond and love for each other was unmatched. “Papa G,” as he was affectionately known, was there to support and guide Beth through all of life’s challenges and triumphs. Nothing made him happier than being her dad.

Gary remarried Cynthia Davanzo and they moved to The Villages. They spent their retirement together in sunny Florida where they enjoyed dining out with friends, going on cruises, and golfing together. Gary was an avid golfer, a life-long sports fan, and an animal lover who adored his pets. With his wonderful sense of humor, loud New York accent, and colorful golf shirts, he spread happiness and laughter wherever he went.

Gary is survived by his daughter and wife. He was the truest example of a devoted, loving father who gave his all to his daughter. He and Jerilynne are now together at last.

Gary was a dear friend for many years. We met in Hebrew school. We became fast friends and we’re always together.
May he rest in peace until we meet again.

Am absolutely heartbroken to hear about the passing of Papa G, but can take comfort in celebrating the life of someone who loved so big. I had the chance to meet him once at the Google office, and the smile he had while seeing Beth in her workplace among friends was absolutely intoxicating. I know the light I see in Beth everyday comes from Jerilynne & Papa G shining through her- and I'm so happy to be a recipient of that joy.

May he rest in peace & comfort knowing that Beth has family who adores her on this earth & beyond.

Sending so much love to the people who love and miss Papa G. The closeness and caring between him and Beth was apparent to anyone who knew them, and I know his love and big personality helped make Beth the phenomenal person she is today. His bright, funny, kind spirit will live on in her. I’m behind you all during this very sad time.

Papa G will always hold a special place in my heart! From Ithaca visits to South Street Seaport dinners, so many memories and so much laughter to look back on. The best thing he left behind, of course, is Beth. Sending all our love during this heartbreaking time of loss.

If there ever was a person you could call a True New Yorker, it’d be Papa G. Was so lucky to have met him and hear about all his great stories through Beth. My best wishes go out to their whole family.

So many memories of Gary..He always told me that he waited until he was 42 to marry the girl of his dreams! Sad that she was taken too soon from him and you Beth. And now him from you, too soon, as well…. Regardless of how gary felt he was a man of conviction and held no regrets. And a badass golfer too! He will be very missed. My condolences to Cynthia too. May he remain in your hearts forever. I love you

Like it was yesterday, I fondly remember Gary joking with Jarred and I, asking who our favorite uncle is. We have some great memories that we'll keep forever, and Beth, you are in our thoughts.

    Lots of love,
    Alex
