Obituary
We are heartbroken to announce the death of Gelmires “Jill” Afriat, 76, who left this world suddenly on March 25, 2023. She joined her parents and 2 brothers to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in heaven. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Left to cherish her memories are her husband of 53 years, Nathaly Afriat, her three children: Charles Afriat, Frederic Afriat, and Huguette Afriat Groce, and her granddaughter Chloe Afriat. She will also be lovingly remembered by her surviving siblings: Gilvanette Mentzer, Izabel Keeshen, Gilvan Machado do Nascimento, Janet Nunes Thome, Gerson Machado do Nascimento, and Mitzi Machado Nascimento Menezes.
She was born to Jose and Maria Machado do Nascimento on January 28,1947 in Brazil. She was the oldest of 9 children. She had an adventurous spirit with a kindness and beauty that radiated from within. A few years after she met and married her husband Nathaly, they moved to the United States of America. Together, they opened a jewelry store where Nathaly designed and created beautiful jewelry and Gelmires operated the business successfully for over 30 years.
Gelmires was loved by all including her family, neighbors, and friends. She enjoyed entertaining and hosting dinner parties with delicious meals and lively conversations. She loved to laugh; she brightened every room she entered with her presence. Her adventurous spirit led her on many road trips, cruises, and travels around the world with her husband and children, who shared her love for adventure. She was always packed and ready to go anywhere at anytime. She was not only a dedicated wife and mother, but she was our shining light and best friend. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
A celebration of life will be scheduled at her private residence with close family and friends.
