Obituary

George MacCutcheon “Mac” Emerson died on November 5th, aged 60 at a family home in Longwood, Fl. The cause was cancer. Born April 18th, 1951 in Dayton, Ohio he was the son of George Oliver Emerson, Jr., MD and Virginia French Emerson. The son of a flight surgeon in the United States Air Force, Mac and his seven siblings lived in Ohio, California, Japan and Wyoming until settling in Winter Park in 1966. There Mac graduated from Winter Park High School and went on to attend Duke University. For many years, Mac ran the Wine and Cheese Cellar and Bistro, off Curry Ford Rd. The Bistro was a favorite hangout among many Orlando residents who enjoyed Mac’s company and food. On weekends he could often be found coaching Winter Park Little League baseball teams or enjoying some sailing and the surf at New Smyrna Beach. Always quick with a joke and a friendly laugh, his humor and companionship will be greatly missed. He is survived by Donna Barker Emerson of Winter Park and their two sons George of Seattle, WA and Henry of Washington, D.C. Also surviving are his siblings Susan Emerson of San Francisco, CA, Kay Emerson of Sunnyvale, CA, Jane Emerson of Irvine, CA, Scott Emerson of Seattle, WA, Carol Emerson of Olney, MD, and Lynn Emerson of Benicia, CA. In lieu of flowers please feel free to make a donation to Hospice of the Comforter at 480 W. Central Parkway, Altamonte Springs, FL 32714. http://www.hospiceofthecomforter.org/en/page/memorial-gifts A memorial service will be held at the Winter Park First Presbyterian Church on Saturday, November 12th, 2011 at 3:00 pm.

Our family enjoyed many good times with Mac over the years. He so enjoyed Starbuck Spring and its natural beauty. His spirit will always be present there. Mac and I shared our passion for baseball whenever we would meet, and always with one of his epicurean creations. Mac will be missed.
